The day my elder brother ran like The Flash because he thought a snake had bitten me, you’d think we were filming an action movie.
Let me take you back.
There we were on a school excursion, people running like their pants were literally on fire.
And me?
I was right there, shouting at the top of my lungs:
“SNAKEEEE!!! MY LEG OO!”
Funny enough, I didn’t run.
Why?
Because in my little dramatic head, I was already gone.
I thought: “Ah, the snake has bitten me, the poison is spreading by now… but somehow, I still have the strength to shout, so let me continue shouting please.” 😂
It was a bit bushy.
Then I saw this tiny green snake slithering out of the bush-with something like white foam coming out of its mouth.
I swore it spat on me. I've watched a lot of Nat Geo wild, so you don't need to say anything.
That was all the evidence I needed. I hollered “SNAKE!” and people took off.
Meanwhile, the school bus carrying my elder brother had just arrived.
Somebody ran up to him and screamed:
“Snr, snake don bite your sister oh!”
Next thing I knew, I was being carried like a sacrifice out of the scene, tears pouring down my face, I was whispering to myself:
“So this is how I’ll go…”
Then I looked up and saw my brother running toward me, faster than I’d ever seen him run.
It was all so dramatic, (but imagine it in slow motion)
They sat me down and started checking my leg.
“Where’s the place?” they asked.
I looked, looked again…
And nothing.
The “bite” was gone.
That’s when the fear melted.
I even got meat pie and cold minerals for all my “stress,” while everyone else went on to see the rest of the environment.
At first, it feels like the end.
The poison is surely spreading. And you're thinking
"You’re about to die."
But then-you check again, and there’s nothing there.
Isn’t that how we treat our writing fears too?
🩵 “I’m not good enough.”
🩵 “People won’t read it.”
🩵 “What if I mess it up?”
We often let these tiny snakes of fear become giant cobras in our heads.
When in reality, there’s nothing there but a story, waiting to be written, waiting to be laughed about later.
So tell me what’s that ‘snake’ stopping you from writing today?
Share with me. Let’s laugh about it together. 😅
